Best time to travel

Spring and autumn. the rhododendrons are in bloom from April to May.
Winter: Due to the relatively low altitude, this trek is also suitable from November to March.

Day Wise Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival from Bagdogra airport / travel module Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kolkota or Delhi. Transfer to rural Sikkim. Overnight stay in a hotel.

Day - 2

The culture of the Lepchas & Sikkim’s monastic culture. Visit to a Lepcha village and meeting with the village shaman. Visit to two monasteries. Overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 3

City tour of Gangtok. Overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 4

Off to the north! Overnight stay in a hotel in Lachung.

Day 5

Rhododendron high valley Yumthang & journey to Lachen. Overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 6

Day trip across the tree line to the last settlement before Tibet. Short optional hike in the idyllic Chopta Valley. Overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 7

Return journey to East Sikkim. Overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 8

Day trip to the children’s village. Overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 9

Off to South Sikkim! On the way, visit a beautiful tea garden and the gigantic Guru Padmasambhava statue. Finally, take a walk through a typical Bhutia village & surroundings. Overnight stay as a house guest in a homestay (private room with bathroom).

Day 10

Journey via the power and pilgrimage site of Tashiding to Yoksum. Overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 11

Onward journey via a sacred wishing lake to Pemayangtse Monastery in Pelling. Overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 12

Transfer to a remote region of western Sikkim & visit to the monastery school. Overnight stay in a farmhouse.

Day 13

Day of rest or hiking. Overnight stay in a farmhouse.

Day 14

Continuation with travel module Darjeeling or Kalimpong. Or transfer to Bagdogra airport with flight to Kolkota or Delhi. From there, continue with the Kolkota or Delhi travel module or any other India travel module.

Options
  • Extend or shorten this tour as you wish. We will be happy to help you personally. For example, you can integrate further village visits with homestays; plan further hiking days or even a short trek, etc.
  • Refrain from visiting North Sikkim if you want to avoid long, strenuous journeys as much as possible
  • Integrate further travel modules to India or Bhutan
