Living root bridges are a remarkable example of sustainable engineering found primarily in the Khasi and Jaintia hills of Meghalaya. These bridges are made by training the roots of the rubber tree (Ficus elastica) to grow across rivers and ravines, creating natural, sturdy walkways.
