In Kaziranga National Park, one of the most beautiful national parks in India, various safaris by jeep and elephant await you. Enjoy fantastic game and bird watching and come face to face with rhinos in the wild.

Experience the Brahmaputra river on a boat trip to various islands, including Majuli, the largest river island in the world. Visit Assam’s most beautiful tea gardens and get to know various tribes of the region through village visits.

Ideal from November to April, at best also October to May. The stormy monsoon from June to September is not suitable for tours. Kaziranga National Park is closed from May to early November due to flooding from the Brahmaputra river.

Day Wise Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Guwahati

Arrival at Guwahati Airport, e.g. from travel module Kolkota, Sikkim, Darjeeling or Kalimpong. Drive to Kaziranga National Park. Overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 2

Elephant safari

Elephant safari in the morning followed by two jeep safaris with game and bird watching. Overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 3

Jeep safari

Jeep safari, game and bird watching; onward journey to Majuli Island. Overnight stay in an easy lodge.

Day 4

Visit to the Vaishnavite monasteries and a Mising village. Onward to a beautiful tea garden. Overnight stay in a bungalow.

Day 5

Tea garden visit and onward to Guwahati.

Day 6

Guwahati city tour.

Day 7

Visit to the silk weavers. Afternoon flight to Kolkota or Bagdogra. Continue with modules Northeast India, Kokota, Delhi, Sikkim, Darjeeling or Kalimpong.

Additional options

  • Include a river cruise lasting several days in the air-conditioned cabin of a small cruise ship. You will be spoiled with culinary delights from the kitchen crew, sail past banks covered in lush green vegetation, through gently rolling hills and past sandbanks and wild natural landscapes. With a bit of luck, you may even catch a glimpse of the white-crowned Himalayan giants in the distance. (+3-10 days)
  • Visit remote, small settlements and the rarely visited Orang National Park
  • Combine your tour to Assam with other states in the northeast of India such as Nagaland, Meghalaya or Arunachal Pradesh, according to your time window. Combine the travel module Bhutan Crossing with a visit to Kaziranga National Park and Guwahati or the travel module Assam.
  • Individual focus: If you have a special interest in botany, ornithology or the country’s typical culture or religion, an expert will be happy to accompany you on your tour or for certain activities!

The journey is led by an experienced English-speaking local guide who provides cultural insights, assists communication with local communities, and ensures smooth coordination throughout the tour.

  • Good hiking shoes recommended.
  • Participants carry personal daypacks.
  • Overland travel stages of 1–5 hours.
  • Flexibility and openness to local conditions required.

Comfortable guesthouses or mid-range hotels in major towns such as Delhi, Rumtek and Gangtok. Simpler guesthouses are used in remote regions, offering authentic local experiences.

Homestays provide cultural immersion rather than luxury comfort. Facilities are simple, meals are home-cooked, and travelers gain insight into authentic local lifestyles.

Vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals are available. Hiking days usually include packed lunches. Drinks are not included except breakfast beverages. Boiled water or tea may be available during hikes for an additional cost.
