On the trail of the history of Sikkim’s origins, you will discover the most beautiful Buddhist-Lamaist monasteries in the west and south of the country and learn a lot about the religion and culture of the Sikkimese, who originally came from Tibet. On request, we can integrate short hikes through the cultural landscapes. As a guest in a typical Bhutia village, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture of this Tibetan people in a particularly impressive way. Watch how your meal is prepared from natural ingredients in the traditional kitchen or join the cook in the kitchen.

In good weather, you can enjoy the view of Sikkim’s patron god, the third highest mountain in the world, Mt Khangchendzonga, which towers in the northwest.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 – 4: Arrival from Bagdogra airport – transfer to East Sikkim: experience the capital Gangtok (handicrafts, orchids, viewpoints and much more), meet the Lepcha people and immerse yourself in the Tibetan-Buddhist cultural heritage of the Rumtek region.
  • Day 5 – 11: Travel on to South and West Sikkim with various hiking options, insights into the everyday life of small farmers (rice fields of Martam, Temi tea garden, monastery school in the countryside, Pemayangtse temple, Dubdi & Rinchenpong, ruins from kingdom times and much more). Stay overnight as a house guest or in privately run lodges and hotels that reflect the cultural heritage of Sikkim.
  • Day 12: Return to Bagdogra airport or connecting program Darjeeling, Sikkim East, Sikkim North
