Environmental stewardship and cultural sensitivity are high in our agenda. At the Bamboo Retreat our aim is to promote Eco-tourism as defined by TIES (The International Eco-tourism Society): "responsible travel to natural areas, which conserves the environment and sustains the well-being of local people."
We have been rewarded Sawday’s Ethical Collection on environment and sustainable tourism
Amongst other measures at Bamboo Retreat we
- Recycle glass, metal, paper, batteries, plastic and organic matter (composting)
- Heats part of our water by solar-heaters
- Use hand-crafted cane- and bamboo, a renewable resource, for much of our interiors
- Have an efficient self-cleaning, three-chamber septic-tank-system
- Grow our own organic vegetables and purchases whatever possible directly from local villages.
