Set in three acres of paddy fields with wonderful views of the Himalayan mountains bordering Tibet, Bamboo Resort is a quiet and interesting place to base yourself for treks, with creative workshops, meditation and herbal soaks on offer.
There’s also a special
room for herbal baths – soak in one infused with lemon-grass from the
garden, lit by candle light and with a relaxing herbal tea. Foot massage is
also on offer, and workshops available on request include basket weaving,
cooking and sikkimese language classes and Tibetan mandala painting with a
Thangka Master.
All of the 10 rooms have attached bathrooms and in winter are quipped with room heaters and hot water bags. Each room is decorated individually with different color themes according to Feng Shui, the ancient Chinese science that prescribes ways of living in a state of harmony and balance with the environment. Most rooms have a balcony overlooking paddy fields, Gangtok across the valley and the snow-capped mountains behind it that mark the border to Tibet. The main house is a big stone building built on the principals of Feng Shui. All ten rooms are painted a different colour and cover the four elements – root yourself inside the green room or booster your energy sleeping in red. Trendy lamps from Switzerland sit atop locally made bamboo tables, beds are raised futons and all rooms have en suite bathrooms and iron balconies with enriching mountain views. Meals are served buffet-style (alternating veg- and non-veg) inside the marbled dining area or on the terrace, using ingredients from the organic herb and vegetable garden. Sikkimese, Tibetan, Swiss and Indian dishes are all available, as well a home made pizza cooked in the wood-fired pizza oven. Fern, wild yams, stinging nettle, fermented mustard leaves or even orchids are a selection of the exotic fresh ingredients used in Sikkimese cuisine. Menus are homecooked fresh daily and prepared with fresh, seasonal, locally and organically grown vegetables. The restaurant is furnished traditionally Sikkimese combined with western sitting-arrangements crafted of cane. Come to savor local Sikkimese country cuisine and enjoy various cuisines in our alternating buffet-plan including vegetarian - and non-vegetarian buffet on alternating days. If you let us know your dietary preferences our cook shall be glad to consider them. · Regenerating Herbal Bath · Library · Himalaya-related Videos shown in TV-Room · Meditation Room · Telephone at reception · Laundery Service · Beautifully landscaped gardens with lawns · Ethno botanical herb- and vegetable garden · Moutainbike Rental upon prior request · Padmington Ideal base for exploring the mystical Sikkim Himalayas with surrounding areas The Bamboo Resort has an in-house Travel Agency – Greenwood Travels –, which takes personalized care of your travel related requirements.
